Circular Walk to Carnedd Llewelyn

Walk Details
Date:26/04/2015 and others
Distance:16km (10 miles)
Ascent:900m (2950ft) approx.
Walk Time:5 hours + rests approx.
Description:
This is a combination of lakeside walks by two lakes on the eastern edge of the Carneddau mountains interspersed with a climb over a ridge of mountains offering fine views of the lakes as well as of the higher mountains to the west including Tryfan, Glyder Fach and the Carneddau. The walk starts at the forest car park north of Llyn Crafnant Reservoir and follows a track along the northern edge of the lake. It then climbs up to reach Craig Wen from the less steep western side and follows the ridge as far as Creigiau Gleision overlooking Llyn Cowlyd Reservoir. Descending back down into the Crafnant valley it then heads up to Llyn Geirionydd for the second lakeside walk then over a gentler forested ridge to Llyn Crafnant and back to the car park.
Possible Variants can include a detour to see the dam of Llyn Cowlyd Reservoir to extend the walk, or omitting the walk round Llyn Geirionydd to reduce it.
